History

The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future.

History Intent Statement

At St Vincent’s Primary School, we have designed a high quality skills based history curriculum, which aims to inspire our pupils to have not only an increasing curiosity about the history of their current community, but also that of their own cultural heritage. It is our intention that children will leave year 6 with the necessary skills to move their learning forward independently. We strive to ensure that they gain the necessary knowledge of the history of Britain and how it has influenced and been influenced by the wider world. We want the children to understand how Britain became the multi-cultural society it is today. In addition we place a strong emphasis on teaching children about significant people of the past, we ensure these reflect the cultural diversity of our school.  Through an understanding the wider world, including ancient civilisations, empires and changes both within and beyond living memory, our children will gain an understanding of how the world has developed and changed in the past and allow them to appreciate the differences they will be able to make in the future.

We want our children to have the opportunity to use historical enquiry to gain their knowledge to enable them to become independent learners and critical thinkers. This will happen not only in the classroom, but through the use of fieldwork and educational visits. Providing fantastic opportunities vital to our children.
